The Florida Orchestra at Mahaffney Theater

January 28, 2024

One of the gems of St. Petersburg is The Florida Orchestra and their concerts at Mahaffey Theater.  This past Saturday, TFO celebrated George Gershwin’s 125th birthday. Repertoire included ‘S Wonderful, The Man I Love, Porgy & Bess selections, An American in Paris and more. Conductor John Morris Russell lead the TFO with charismatic aplomb and grace. Guest soloists Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield (Voice) and Ray Ushikubo  (Piano & Violin) delivered top tier performances. It was a delightful evening.

Next weekend TFO Music Director Michael Francis will lead the orchestra in collaboration with Opera Tampa for performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Straz Center in Tampa.

Also next weekend, TFO’s musicians will perform in collaboration with conduct Chelsea Gallo chamber versions of Rachmaninoff’s complete Symphonic Dances, Debussy’s tone poem Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Paul Hindemith’s Tuttifantchen Suite, based on a Christmas fairy tale.
